Canada Closes Farm Management Stream of the Self-employed Persons Program

Effective March 10th, 2018, Canada will no longer be accepting applications made under the Farm Management Stream of the Self-employed Persons Program. Any applications submitted to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) prior to March 10th, 2018 will still be processed to completion, meaning they will receive a decision on their application.

Canada’s Self-employed Persons Program allows individuals who are self employed in certain occupations to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency based on their ability to become financially self sustaining and ability to contribute to Canada’s economy in the field in which they are applying under. Applicants are required to have at least two years of experience in the previous five years in the field which they are applying under.

There is currently no minimum financial requirement for applicants applying under the Self-employed Persons Program, but they do need to show that they have enough funds to settle in Canada with any accompanying dependants and have enough money to finance their work in Canada.

All applicants under the Self-employed Persons Program are also required to meet a minimum of 35 points on the selection criteria set out by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Prospective applicants can review Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) criteria on their official website https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/self-employed/eligibility/selection-factors.html .

Occupations which are still eligible under this program include the following:

Professional occupations in art and culture
Technical occupations in art, culture, recreation and sport
